In poor countries, most food is wasted during production and distribution. Instead, in rich countries, consumers waste the most food. It goes without saying that some food is wasted along the chain. Greenhouse gas poluutes the planet more than even CO2. Food waste that ends up in landfills produces a large amount of methane. The greenhouse gases such as methane, CO2 and chlorofluorocarbons absorb infrared radiation and heat up the earth's atmosphere, causing global warming and climate change.
