FOOD WASTE
Did you know that around 88 millions of tonnes of food are wasted annually just in the UE?
Most of this food is wasted at home, so you want to know some solution in order to avoid this?
You can follow this tips: check the dates, freeze food and the last one, serve small portions of food.
The first useful tip is to check the dates. When you are shopping and find a food you want to buy, think about when you want to eat it. If you want it for dinner that night, just check it is not in bad conditions. Instead if you just want to have it as “plan b” make sure that its due date isn’t near. Always buy the ones which are closer to you, those are the ones that are more recently placed in the shelves. Like this you will avoid having to waste food in bad conditions and also you will have extra food for a long period of time.
Another good technique is to freeze food. When you don’t eat the day bread and your dog doesn’t want to eat it, you can do two things: freeze it, or waste it. Isn’t the solution obvious?
I have to admit it, it doesn’t taste the same, but it will be edible for a long time.
The last and best tip I can give you is to serve small portions of food. What usually happens when you do this is that people go and refill their plates with more quantity than what you gave them from the beginning. Like this, just with putting half of the portion you are used to, people will eat more than their normal portion.
In conclusion, there are lots of ways to save food, so, why waste it? Like this, you both save money and contribute with the environment.
