3 Ways to Stop Food Waste from Home

Food waste is an ever-growing problem in not only Europe, but all over the globe. We, the people need to do something about this matter before it takes a serious toll economically, environmentally and politically. In order to change the possible chaos, we have to do something, and act fast, before it’s too late. By planning our shopping, serving small amounts of food, and use....leftovers; We can all make a difference.
First of all, with a plan in mind, everything goes smoothly even shopping for groceries. Organising your mind is the best way to have a healthy way of living, including eating healthy. For example, if you already know what to eat for dinner, a selection has been made to make the decision, a series of pros and cons have lead you to make that decision, but if you eat only what you feel like consuming or what you can find in the kitchen to feast upon will just make you throw away much more. That is why planning your shopping by making lists of what is best to buy or what is needed may persuade you in not wasting as much because you already know what is at your disposal in any situations, (guests, parties, picnics ,etc…). Knowing what to buy can change your life!
Then, serving appropriate amounts of food can influence the numerous loads of food that did not make the cut. Making small portions of food allows you to finish the dish without feeling troubled about the remnants. Also it gives you a reason to sense and taste the savour of the meal, because you have more time to eat and while enjoying the quality and not the quantity, which leads to: the more food you prepare the less consciousness is put in the preparation of the cookery. The quality increases if the quantity decreases.
Finally, after finishing any meal: breakfast, lunch, or dinner the chances of leaving crumbs, remnants, or leftovers are very high. That is why, the best way of not wasting food is to put the leftovers away, in a container or even wrapped up in foil and put it away in the fridge where it will remain just the way you left it for a while. Basically, you recycle your food, giving it another purpose: the vegetables can be used in soups if they start to wilt or salads if they are still fresh, fruit can be used in smoothies or milkshakes or even pies. Any other kind of food can be eaten as it was or given another function.
In conclusion, food waste has serious social and environmental implications, but many of us don’t think twice about it. I hope is that after learning more about this this prevalent problem, YOU will do what you can to make a difference.
